Understanding Page SEO

Driving traffic to a website to can be confusing for an entrepreneur trying to do it themselves. It doesn't matter if it is a new site or even a site that has been around for a while. I thought building my website was the hard part, ya right! My head swims with the terms SEO, PPC, Blogs, Marketing buzz, Targeted landing pages, Conversion tools, Sophisticated analytics and Organic results. Wow its like learning a whole new language, where is my Advil...

Lets look at SEO for a moment. SEO stands for Search engine optimization and Wikipedia has the definition as "SEO is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results for targeted keywords. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines".

Some of the newer marketing methods are on page Search engine optimization (SEO). Just because you have a beautiful website setup just so and looks great doesn't mean it is search engine friendly. Search engines need help trying to find your site. Clues to what your site is all about. It is imperative that you use the correct keywords in the page content. Your page title needs to be short and have the right keywords as well. You should have the same keywords in the H1, H2, H3 HTML tags on the page. Including these keywords in the URL is even better. I just did this on my site http://www.getmeknown.com/ and believe it has helped. Somewhat important is also the page text, including bold text can be helpful too.

A description of what your site is about is important when you are listed in search engines results, because it lets the reader know what your site is about. This would be for the reader's benefit not the Search engine. Keywords designated in your site's HTML code lets the search engines know a little bit about your sites content.

Five quick points to remember on page SEO make sure your titles, keywords, headings, URL and descriptions are conducive to the your page content. Keep each page content unique. Don't duplicate keywords, titles, and content on multiple pages or search engines may consider your context as spam. Keep your pages short, sweet and simple less is definitely more. Your page title and description will show up when you are listed in search engine results make sure to sell
the page to the reader.

I hope this helps give a little in site on page SEO. Next I think I may need to tackle PPC and Google Adwords. But for now, I am going to go take my Advil and wash it down with some Mylanta.
